Another chance to head up north to Herning but no Italians in town this time around. Interestingly despite this being my 9th game in Denmark this was to be the first time I had seen a top flight match in the country.
With Sebastian in tow again along with Colin another work acquaintance we headed the hour and a half north to witness what was, lets just say a stuffy game which created little action of note. The first half was two teams who while could defend well didn’t do much in terms of attacking. This keeping the shot count well down for the game. I would guess 3 on target all game. The teams played two different styles with the visitors looking to catch Midtjylland out on the wings with fullback Villadsen and winger Ascone on the right looking the most likely to cause damage. The hosts on the other hand seemed to overly rely on long balls over the top for Gustav Isaksen and Edward Chifuya to chase down. The latter showing he has an incredible engine throughout. But the half threw up very little of note. The ref awarded a penalty to top of the table Nordsjaelland but over ruled his decision with VAR. There was only one decent effort in this forty five. This coming from Nordsjaelland’s Villadsen which Lossl kept out equally well. Andreas Hanse in the other goal had very little to do and pretty much played out the game as a sweeper keeper. A guy who clearly has a good footballing brain though. Decent at what he did with his feet.
HT 0 v 0
The highlight of the game came at half time when we fed ourselves on huge Frankfurters and a beer. That’s the kind of game it was, when the half time food turns out to be the best thing. Again the second half was devoid of action but despite this it flew in and before we knew it we were on the way home. Good atmosphere, poor game and there is not much more to say about it than that. A lot different experience to when I was here to see the game v Lazio. Watching fitba throws up good and bad and you just have to accept that. This was my 80th foreign venture and only the 5th 0 v 0(also to be noted my first foreign revisit). Not one that will stand out in my memory but ach well.
