A hybrid Junior v HFL game on an amateur pitch. Ach why not, being as good as on the doorstep. To be honest it was a push saying Highland League as this was the youth team from Pitmedden with David Dangana added as he is returning from injury. This up against newly promoted to the NOSFL Premier Newmachar United who although beaten in the playoffs last season were promoted this week due to Hermes surprise demise. (The league constitution states that the Premier has to be 16 teams).
Chosen by the Wee Man I was quite up for this given the close proximity to home. However, as time burned on I wish I wasnt there. This was poor viewing with very little of anything. Formartine were the better team overall and maybe should have scored more. But the game was a grind barring five minutes between 73 and 78. Newmachar took the lead through their 14 whoever he was. Although I dont know who his name, take a bow min.Receiving the ball at the apex of the box on the left the bot curled a peach of an effort across goal and into the top corner. Grant Corbett in goal for Formartine didnt have a chance and I am sure no keeper would have. You knew it was going in as soon as it left his foot.Five minutes and the equaliser was just as good when Victory Asokomeh from 18 yard arrowed a toe punt out of reach. The effort thundered off the bar, the line and in and to add to the aesthetic pleasure of the strike it didn’t touch the back of the net. A wicked hit. That was that. Roll on competitive fitba. I have to say though Dangana was a a cut above the rest of the boys on the park. I thought he played well although maybe could have released the ball quicker at times. Not one to be remembered.
