Sheddocksley, Aberdeen, 13/4/26
A rare Monday night game for the Wee Man took us to the infamous and wonderful Sheddocksley Sports Centre. We have all played there at some point, we have probably got into some sort of battle at some point and we have all seen the scooter neds at some point. I have even seen a match ball nicked by one of these motorized bampots (Glendale v Ellon Thistle). I have been started on in the woods and waited for outside the changing rooms for a go and more than once on both counts. I have also viewed the greatest game of fitba I have been lucky enough to have seen live there. A game which is almost celebrating its years anniversary (FC Polska 5 v 6 Ellon Thistle, 30/4/25). The place just oozes memories for me from the age of maybe 11. My outright favourite memory has to be scoring a last minute winner at u12s v Sheddocksley in the Scottish Cup and proceeding to shoosh their touchline with a celebration Gabriel Batistuta carried out a few days before at the Nou Camp before I was flattened by my team mates. With the Wee Man’s game v Northstar and three amateur matches on tonight, I thought I would take a wander about during the warm up. Not much changes here but one thing that does is worrying. This being, since our last visit(August 25), there are now only five 11-a-side pitches left instead of six. If you know Sheddocksley of old there were masses and it was one of the busiest places in Aberdeen on a Saturday and Sunday along with the other municipals such as Hazlehead (ditched by the council), Inverdee (ruined by the council), Aulton (ditched by the council). The council hates kids and recreation which is a hill I will die on. With Sheds the sole survivor of the mass pitch sets ups, the fact it is still losing pitches at an alarming rate is a cause for concern for grassroots. There were nine a year ago which although low, was still better than the current state
As I took a stroll about the joint, I found myself taking heaps of photos, so in tribute to the Sheds, here is a Monday night in Spring in pictorial form
Also Wee Man won 1 v 4. Excellent.
