Random Fact – FCM are the first foreign team I have visited 3 times
With my work having a no flying on the same day as your chopper rule, I had a night in Esbjerg before heading offshore. With a quick look at fixtures it was clear another night in Herning beckoned. This for the third time after previously seeing them batter Lazio 5 v 1 and grind out a 0 v 0 with Nordsjaelland in the past. The difference this time being I was to get the train up as opposed to lifts or taxis. This meaning after a couple of beers in the town I started the walk to the ground. What a trek it was too. Not a fan friendly location for a newbuild. I left the pub at 18.00 and got there 5 minutes shy of a 19.00 kick off and that’s me with huge fast strides too. But i finally reached the glow of the floodlights and after grabbing a hotdog I found a space in what was a packed terrace facing the sea of yellow Brondby fans, who were making a decent racket. As were the home fans who werent to be outdone. It was shaping up to be a decent evening. The game was strange though. It was entertaining yes, it had both teams attacking, each with a host of chances but they all seemed to go over the bar. Midtjylland more guilty than Brondby who did sky a few efforts themselves. The keepers were having it easy on the night. The biggest touches for either were both for Hermansen in the away net. One when he pulled off a decent stop from Isaksen. The next when he picked up what was a clear pass back in front of us which was inexcusably waved away
HT 0 v 0
I was starting to wonder if I was going to see my second 0 v 0 at this stadium this season going by the lack of keeper action on show. But I was not to worry as on the hour, Ohikhuaeme Omoijuanfo was lurking at the back post, a yard out to meet a perfect Simon Hedlund ball across the six yard line, this sending the travelling yellow masses wild. Lossl in the Midtjylland goal could do nothing but watch as his net was breached. Evjen’s part in the build up looked like a fantastic bit of skill from where I was but it may also have been a fluke. I will have to seek out the highlights to confirm. But that really was about it. Midtjylland were the better team over all but got nothing from it. Brondby weren’t to care as they leapfrogged FCM in the league. They are gradually creeping up after a poor start to the season. Not a classic but not a bad watch at all. Hopefully game one of two this trip as there is a chance of a trip to either Kolding (v HIK) or Middlefart (v FA 2000) the day I get back onshore.
A good night had in what is becoming a second home but I will struggle to see so many shots over the bar again in a single game.
