Friday night lights again. Two Fridays home and scored with both so far. I have said in the past I think I prefer Friday night fitba to Saturday these days. Controversial a statement it may be but I genuinely feel its true now. There is just something magic about non-league fitba under the glare of the floodlights. This time it was a trip to the north end of Aberdeen to Bridge of Don to watch my picks to win the title(before a ball was kicked) Hermes. One extra bonus of a trip to Lochside Park, the pies are quality things.
On quality the game wont go down in the all time classics. It was a bit routine for Hermes. The were all over the Sunnybank early on and after a few similar moves not bearing any fruit the same ball into the box from out finally wide paid off when Nikolas Wozniak was on hand to tap in from close range. Although there were only seven minutes on the clock, this was a case of the home sides pressure finally paying off. Very much a one sided affair early doors. It was looking like a long night was coming for the Bankies and if truth be told it could have been an even longer night if Hermes were more clinical as numerous big chances were spurned. At the other end Sunnybank had a couple of chances but nothing to worry Jakob Otto between the sticks. A second came for Hermes when Rae was on the goal line to knock home a cross from the left. A ball which a number of black and blue men could have buried. A third came before the half ended when big defender Craig Mackie rose to head home a corner. This had the potential of getting out of hand for Sunnybank.
HT 3 v 0
As we were knocking the ball about in front of the changing rooms at the break, Sunnybank manager Anton Lennox balled out the door to four of his substitutes. A clear change of plan was coming and to be fair, a totally different team appeared. One which showed a bit of fight and played the majority of the half in the Hermes half. The quadruple half time sub glut plus fifth soon after the break made a huge difference. However the second forty five was a bit non-descript overall to be honest and it was not until late on it had anything of note pan out. As I was starting to wind up Wee Man that I was going to get the correct score Hermes were handed a penalty with around five minutes to go. This when Brunon Paszkiewicz was bearing down on an open goal, as he was away to hit the ball he was flattened by the substitute Sunnybank defender(unsure of name).A penalty and a red card correctly followed. Paszkiewicz dusted himself down and took the kick himself making no mistake. It was now Wee Man bragging to me. I told him there was plenty of time for a fifth and it turned out I was correct as defender Mackie saved me by notching his second of the night. Again by using his height to his advantage at a set piece. This with pretty much the last touch of the ball. A total sickener for Wee Man who thought he had drawn level with me for the season. (It’s actually incredible how many time either if us gets our predictions bust by late late goals). Not a classic by any stretch, but five goals, a decent team to watch in Hermes, Friday night lights and a fine pie. An enjoyable night out overall. Hermes up to second with their win.
