Random Fact – Raemoss Park is the most easterly ground in the entire Scottish football pyramid.

A Thursday with no Wee Man fitba training and instead a Wee Man asking if there was fitba to watch. There was one option, up to Peterhead to my old team, The Hearties. Last seasons McLeman Cup winner and Premier League side versus the club who finished on 11 points in the Championship in second bottom(bottom Whitehills also had 11), this had the makings of a bit of a do-in. That’s what it was in the end. After a fine blether to my old work pal Colin who I had not seen in a while, the match kicked off and it was no spectacle. Strangely though it was 0 v 0 at the break. Buchanhaven were dominant from the first whistle. At a guess I would say in the first 15 minutes Cruden Bay would have had under 10% of the possession. It has been a long time since I have seen a team pass another to death in such a manner. The Hearties are clearly a good team but their lack of directness maybe cost them somewhat in the first half. They just didn’t seem to have the killer instinct.

HT 0 v 0

At half time there was a buzz in the air, yes it’s the time of year for bees but this was different, it was a mechanical buzz. Looking up, there were two motorised paragliders zooming over the top of Raemoss. Not something you will see often during a match. The Hearties certainly had shaken off their final third issues from the first half and went on to unforgivingly blitz the Bay by seven, inclusive of doubles for Zane Laird and Euan Culley who both had superb strikes which kissed the woodwork on the way in. The latter was a real pest when he came on, clearly a good player by the looks. The score could maybe could have been more too but scoring seven in a half is still some going . As good as Buchanhaven were on the ball, I struggle to enjoy games like this, and it wont live long in the memory. Far too one way for my liking despite what was a solid performance. What I will take from this is though, the Hearties could be a useful team in the coming season and I really hope this is the case. Another thing from the night, I noticed Pipey, the long serving BHJFC committee man still holding the flag on the touchline when needed. A top man and invaluable type to a club.
