When it rains it pours, a second visit to Rubislaw in about 48 hours. This time on a non planned visit. With the bed time stories read and being in the vicinity I thought I would do a bit of a scouting mission for Ellon Thistle as they put FC Polska to the sword 16 miles north at the Meadows.

Missing the first few minutes again as I did on Monday I was in luck as it was still a blank when I turned up. One difference tonight was the amount of rugby types training in the vicinity. This historically being the “real sport” that should be played at Rubislaw (Grammar Playing Fields). Fitba being played here would probably have been classed as sacrilege in the past. On the gentleman’s game played by thugs pitch, Bon Accord looked a much improved side from their Monday night v Ellon Thistle. I think a big part in this was the fact Martin Johnston started. A man who made a difference on Monday when introduced. I am a big fan of him, a cracking player and not much younger than me too but bloody hell he puts in a shift. Unfortunately for Bon Accord they were done with two errors in quick succession which saw them two down. The first being miscommunication between goalkeeper and defender which left a tap in, then an effort which was not very troublesome finding its way past Ferguson in goal. ACMIA were not to complain and went ito the break two up. But this was not without scares from set pieces which their keeper Bentinck was refusing to come and gather putting his defence under pressure but Bon Accord couldn’t capitalise. The half ended on what could possible go down as miss of the season. Step forward Freddie Kinghan. The visiting striker from maybe six yards out seemed to try and place a volley into the top corner and sent it well over the bar when he probably could have just let it hit his foot without aiming and it would have hit the net. Incredible miss

HT 0 v 2

The second half was much more in Bon Accord’s favour and Ferguson in goal was spectating for large parts and was even conversing with me at times. Johnstone was making things tick for the home side and Academy were struggling at times. They even started to wobble a bit and lose concentration when City started roughing them up. It was amusing to watch as the experience was shining through. Dark arts too which I always appreciate. One thing I do not like is diving wee fannies and Academy had stuck one on the pitch in Sam Leslie, the guy went down more than a crack whore in a pay by the hour motel. He was never on his feet, while gurning about fuck all. But what would you expect from someone with earrings in each ear taped up. It was bloody funny to see him take a proper hit when Ryan Milne had clearly had had enough of him and proceeded to blooter him on the side line which he inevitably cried about. He was then almost volleyed into the adjacent Harlaw pitches by Johnstone which was incredibly just cautioned. Well done ref. City were clearly winning the battle now as Academy didn’t have the heart to go toe to toe in such a fight and the reactions of the players was testament to that. The home side went on to half the deficit as the Achilles heel of the Academy keeper was taken advantage of when a set piece was plonked right on top of him, he made a mess of it and Oskar Owczarek was there to stick the ball over the line from maybe a yard. Game on. Or not, as no sooner had Academy had taken centre they had restored their two goal lead. Again City will be cursing themselves as it was too easy. A loss of possession and a through ball saw a square pass to the boy band apparel wearing Leslie who could not miss from ten yards. 3 v 1 with five minutes to go and that was that. A tale of errors where on another day the result could have been different. AC Mill Inn Academy will not be caring though as three points are all that matters here at this time of the season and they stay top.
