Colony Park Juniors Football Club

Founded – 2011 as a Junior Club

Nickname – N/A

HonoursNorth Region First Division (East) – 2015/16

Random Fact – The club were the first ever visited by Wee Man. This during the 2017/18 season for a match v Stonehaven.

Not plan A, but with the rain on the go today I would imagine numerous games were off, inclusive of our original plan of Bon Accord City v AC Mill Inn Academy. With seeing two title chasing Juniors last night, why not make it a third today at our most local Junior team. It was a good way of gauging the competition at the top end of the league. Wee Man was in agreement as he found it amusing he would watch Colony Park today then play Colony Park in the morning. As good a reason as any. However, goings on on the park were nothing great. The highlight of the whole day had already been and gone, this being the quality pie, not a steak but a mince as it was all I could get my hands on . Weighty, stappit, tasty and just magic overall. I got an extra half pie too as Wee Man couldnt manage. Result of the day for me. The fitba was a lot of possession for Culter but not much goal mouth action created. A bit similar to Friday night at Lochside. Culter should have been up 0 v 1 early doors when Fraser broke into the box but Colony keeper (on loan from Formartine United) Cammy Middleton was out quick and down sharpish to block. But it was clear the big keeper was in some distress after grabbing at his groin and struggling to kick off the deck, grimacing every time as he did. From the resulting corner, again Culter should have scored when defender Adams headed wide from under 10 yards out. These early scares were about it in terms of chances for the half. Colony defended well and forced Culter into pops from range which never troubled Middleton. A pretty solid showing defensively. Although I would question the constant balls back to Middleton to kick long as he was clearly toiling. Some players had surely not seen what we could.

HT 0 v 1

A bottle of Famous Grouse headed my way as I took the half time raffle, this adding to my extensive list and ever growing list of half time wins over the years. By the time second half kick off had approached the crowd had cleared somewhat with the Locos away to start versus the Broch next door but the remainder were treated to much and such the same as the first half. Culter had large swathes of the possession but created little due to the defence of the home team. They did finally break the deadlock when a ball into the box found Youngson, he let rip at goal from close range but a last ditch full strength block from centre half Milne thwarted him, unfortunately for Colony the ball looped across the box of Milne finding Dunbar who thumped home putting the champions in the lead. Colony’s best chance of the game fell to Dillon Farquhar who almost took advantage of a poor throw out from Culter keeper Emslie who chucked the ball straight to him, Farqhuar attempted to lob the big number 1 from 25 yards but the Culter man manged to back track the 12 yards and tipped over the bar. A good recovery from his own error. Things got worse for Colony when Middleton’s injury finally became too much for him. After going down a couple of times he had to leave the pitch. To be fair to the big man he did bloody well to get to 65 minutes after tweaking it so early in the game. A second fair play must be said for sub “goalie” Ryan McLaren, clearly a young loon and clearly not a keeper but he had the balls to don the gloves for the guts of a half hour. I did fear for Colony here but to their credit the carried on defending well. Maybe with a bit more lumping it rather than the earlier football played. But I entirely understand where it came from given the small in stature make shift keeper behind them. McLaren was never tested in his 25 or so minute cameo but he did eventually pick the ball out of his net when Culter substitute Gavin Elphinstone sent a brilliant curled effort from the left into the top corner ending the game as a contest. The Culter man was returning today after an eight month or so lay off and the giant multi-man bosie celebration showed how elated his teammates were for him. However doing one of those wanky Cristiano Ronaldo celebrations, yer a grown man min, good luck with the come back though. The game was surely over from here despite the attempts of Colony sub Stewart who showed great feet and power to ruffle up the Culter defence. But it was Culter who added another three points to their quest for retaining their Premier League crown this while staying one of two unbeaten league teams in the entire Scottish pyramid (along with Clydebank).

A plan B but no complaints. Superb pie, free whisky, decent kick about (something that is banned about 20 yards away), a tight battle on the pitch, whats not to like. One day all the nipping about Scotland for games will end and there have been wee comments from Junior recently. Eventually local fitba will become king. Maybe Colony Park JFC will be more frequently visited in future instead of sporadically, it does not get more local at this level. Watch this space I suppose.
