The first part of a Friday night double header and what a start. The Wee Man is a fan of watching the Dons “babies” as he affectionately calls them. The problem is kick offs very rarely tie in with school. Today the 16.00 was perfect and I am more than glad it was doable as the game was quality viewing.
The Dons were in the lead early when after an absolute howler from the Queens Park keeper Campbell . He received the ball to feet only to dally on it for what seemed a ridiculous amount of time. By the time he decided to launch it he had been closed down by Tristan Stephen who blocked the clearance with what looked like his ass from where we were. A horror show from the keeper. It could have been two moments later when Teasdale sent an effort over the bar from close range. Then it was time for the referee to enter everyone’s vision. Firstly he had an assist in the Spiders equaliser when he was informed of the ball being miles out of the quadrant at a corner yet didnt bother to even look. The ball was sent into the box and MacLachan jabbed the ball past Vitols in the Dons goal. The defence to be honest did not look too aware of what was going on this allowing the Spiders to take advantage. The Glaswegians then went on to take the lead through a second assist from the referee who blew for a soft as shite penalty. It was right in front of us and I cannot for the life of me see why it was given. Shoulder to shoulder and the stronger man won. There was nothing in it. But it was given and Falls made no mistake from 12 yards. Queens thought they were 3 v 1 up almost immediately when Falls managed to send an effort goal bound from around 10 yards, the attacker had done everything right with the power and the placement but the Latvian Brocher in the Dons goal incredibly got a hand to it clawing it on to the post only to see the rebound land in his arms. Maybe fortunate with the aftermath but the save was so good it deserved the following good luck. Aberdeen had a chance late on when a well worked multi-pass move from a free kick saw Teasdale through only to be thwarted by some aware goalkeeping from Campbell.
HT 1 v 2
The Dons made a sub bringing on Bradley Chikomo and it turned into a master stroke from gaffer Scott Anderson as he was a handful through out. His presence plus Jack Searle on the left (who man of the match in my eyes and those of fellow ex-Red Finaler Martin who was now in our company) just gave you the feeling the young Dons could win this. It was all Aberdeen who were camped out in the Queens half and by far the better team. It was only a matter of time before a goal for the reds came. It did through another error from the visitors. A slack pass allowed Chikomo into the box to toe bash an effort through the on rushing Campbell. There was only going to be one winner from here. The Dons pressure increased and Searle seemed a man on a mission to make sure it happened and was unfortunate not get on the scoresheet himself a couple of times with one off the line. The winner came with maybe five minutes to go when some cracking work on the left from Masson saw the ball find its way to the running Teasdale who bent an effort into the bottom corner. A tidy finish leading to full team wild celebrations. The Dons pushed for a fourth but it didn’t come despite another decent Teasdale effort striking the post. There was a late scare for the Dons when a save from Vitols combined with a clearance off the line ensured the three points were staying in the north east. A cracker of a game with the only complaint being the bloody constant cold you get when at Kingsford. I am a big fan of the never say die attitude that was on show here from the “babies”. A couple of decent looking youngsters in the side too. More 4pm kick offs please.
