2024/25 – East Fife 20s 3 v 2 Kelty Hearts 20s

New Bayview, Lowland Development League, 7/2/25

Me still 329, Wee Man 195

A very random choice, but with a loon wanting a game, combined with earlier mentioning he had not scratched any teams off his poster in a while, the two combined meant to Kingdom we headed for a look at the young uns of two Fife teams and luckily we were in for a cracker. Another one of those game which proved football can be highly entertaining and a bloody good watch at any level.

At a freezing cold New Bayview. Kelty were not cold and started the game getting at East Fife playing some fast intense passing football. This leading to a few decent opportunities which seemed to be half hit giving East Fife an easy ride at the back. But it seemed a goal was coming. Not taking advantage of the early pressure was to cost Kelty when the hosts took the lead. A long punt from keeper Johnston bounced in behind the Kelty defence, and with some hesitant goalkeeping, Blake nipped in to lob the stranded keeper from 25 yards. Deserved? No but the forward wasn’t to care. This saw East Fife waken up and come into the game but there were no goals before the almost hundred hardy punters nipped into the bar at the break for a well earned warmth.

HT 1 v 0

Kelty were level straight away in the second half when an inswinging corner put keeper Johnston in all sorts of bother leaving the ball to creep into the goal despite the best efforts of a couple of defenders on the line. Possibly an OG in the end as the last touch sent the ball into the roof of the net. Kelty started the half like they did the first clearly the better team creating numerous opportunities at one point bringing out a stramash in the East Fife box seeing Johnston with three rapid saves during a game of pinball between the 6 yard box and oen spot, the keeper doing well to reset himself so quickly. The visitors just could not get it in the goal. Again this was to cost them as East Fife retook the lead when some determined play from Blake on the right saw his ball into the box finished by Preston from a few yards. The lead didnt last long as Kelty made it a Desmond soon after when Johnston was out paced by the Kelty wide man (decent player for the record, unsure of his name)who toed the ball past the keeper and blasted into the net. This seeing Wee Man cheer as I had been busted in my score predictions. The wee brat. The game at this point could have gone either way but it was the home side wrapped it up in the last minute when they were gifted a penalty when Preston was flattened by the Kelty keeper. The same man dusted himself off and made no mistake keeping the three points on the Fife coast. A very decent watch with some tidy players on show. Did the better team win, I would say no but bonnie fitba doesnt always reap rewards and thats exactly what happened here.
