If I didn’t have a clue about the second tier of Swedish fitba last night, then the fourth tier was like a different world. But a fantastic one at that. First off, we have now been to the greatest named ground in all of our travels. It doesn’t come cooler than Valhalla. A name which again going back to my musical tastes is mentioned a lot. But to be honest it is a tidy wee set up to. A quality arched stand spanning the whole touchline on one wing and a terrace on the other which is also arched flanking the opposite by line. But what gives this place extra character is the sights you can see from it. Firstly the Ullevi (real not Gamlmla) to the north of the ground. The gradually raising wing stand is clear as i juts out in the distance. Then to the south there is the three connected high rise Gothia Towers and in behind sits the huge Lisberg amusement park sits where the screams from the rollercoasters are audible when watching a game at Valhalla this as the bonnie Valhallbron church spire looks over the ground. For so many reasons this place is ace but the first and foremost is the people and namely Jannick Winter who is just a genuinely fine bloke. After a chat via email before heading over in regard to a couple of club related details we met him before the game and he had a gift bag for Wee Ma. Including a shirt, scarf, stickers and pennant. An incredible gesture. One which is way above anything that is necessary but fantastic all the same. A chat with him and other committee members * on all things fitba and the love of the “lesser leagues” i couldn’t help but like the club and hope the freak results would come to fruition today. By that Qviding were siting 3rd in the league. 2 points behind Astrio (from Halmstad) with Husqvarna top and promoted automatically. Today was the last day of the season and second place would gain a playoff place, but Astrio were home to Hittarps who were well and truly rock bottom of the league, hence why i said “freak”. Another point of note that was to be liked about the club was the fact they had opened the doors for free to try and generate a big crowd for the final push.
The game against the side from the west of Gothenburg was very much one sided once the home side found their feet. Already relegated Öckerö were the better team early with three decent chances created and spurned but Qviding were not to long in finding their stride. Niklas Ahlgren opened the scoring after a defence splitting ball left him clean through to round the keeper and slip the ball into an empty net. The home side were denied increasing the score by a superb save followed by a n effort off the line. You couldn’t help but feel this was to be a hammering come 90 minutes. A second came from Qviding when that man again Ahlgren couldn’t miss after Melvin Böhlin was brilliant out wide firing in a cross which Yonaton Yosef backheeled into the path of the striker and he made no mistake. More chances came but were missed and that goes for both sides but the half time whistle came with the score being just the 2 v 0,
HT 2 v 0
Half time threw up an elongated live version of Runrig Loch Lomond and Kayleigh by Marillion over the tannoy I could not help but think this was deliberate on the part of Jannick as the pre match tunes were or metal and hard rock tunes like Metallica for example. I am maybe looking into it too much but the softer Scottish tunes seemed out of place and maybe for us potentially. But hearing the tones of Fish yelling out in the middle of Gothenburg was cracking whatever the reason whatever they were. The second half was even more one sided and early on brace scorer Ahlgren laid one on a plate for substitute Gaizka Perez who scored what was to be the first of his hattrick. Perez then set up the 4th with a cross for Yosef who deserved a goal for his display throughout. Then Perez notched his second after a good move between Nyman(Wee Man’s man of the match), Olsson and the goalscorer who was left with a tap in. As the game was dying off the hattrick came when after an fucking outstanding touch on the wing from Perez where he took a ball out of the air dead with aoplomb, allowed him to cut in from the byline and smash home with a couple of minutes to go. That was it for the scoring but it was all in vain as Astrio won 2 v 0 and Qviding are to spend a third year in the 4th tier. Brilliant ground, sound folk and we are up to 12 goals in two games in Sweden. After the game we meandered up to the Hard Rock Cafe as Wee Man wanted to try his hand at shuffleboard(after visiting last night and he saw it). Two things to come out of this , shuffleboard is brilliant fun and after a few tunes on the telly by them, I cant emphasise how much i really fucking hate U2, always have and always will. But my ears being tormented with their shite was soon forgotten once Aberdeen showed their testicular fortitude at Parkhead. We are currently in his land and I can safely say, IN JIMMY WE TRUST.
