Banks o’ Dee Junior Football Club
Founded – 2022
Nicknames – The Dee
Honours – Elginshire Cup-2023/23
Random Fact – The team were formed to keep a Junior presence for Banks o’ Dee after their promotion the the HFL. However unlike other colts who bypassed 100s of teams making a mockery of the pyramid, The young Dee started in the bottom rung taking one of two places available for reconstruction prior to 2022/23 season.
Not a plan for tonight but with nobody about, being on my tod and in the area I made a last second decision to take this game on. Reaching Spain Park a couple of minutes into the game I was hoping for a tight game between two sides playing out their final game in the league cup for nothing more than pride. I didn’t get that. I got a decent performance from the young Dee and a Newmachar United team who failed to turn up. (I am sure they would agree with that too). It was in fact the opposite of what I had seen in the second half of last season when I saw this fixture in reverse at Charlie Gordon Park.
The first half began with the young Dee trying to play fitba on the deck while Newmachar were going for the more direct approach. There wasn’t a huge amount of action in the first half hour barring a few half chances. Woods sent an effort at Mitchell that bounced in front of the keeper making things that little bit more difficult the shortly after, Dee man Nicol also had a decent chance open up for a snap shot not long after but it went wide. Newmachar didn’t create anything concrete with their only chance coming from a speculative effort from Walton which fire across goal and wide of Sharp’s right hand post. The game turned with 8 minutes to go of the half when Ewan Robertson took advantage of some slack defending leaving him open 10 yards from goal to strike the ball through the keeper. It wasn’t long before it was two when a ball over the top evaded the Newmachar defence and found Harry Woods who’s touch was excellent and took Mitchell out of the equation leaving an empty goal to tap into. Newmachar claimed there was a foul in the build up but the ref was having none of it.
HT 2 v 0
Half time saw a conversation which started on Twitter carrying on in person which throws up a decent opportunity for me personally. Watch this space….Back on the pitch it was 3 v 0 early in the half when the Newmachar custodian Mitchell tried to be clever and skin the onrushing Dee man, it failed miserably and with a couple of defenders on the line, Woods was found mid box and rifled an effort into the top corner. Game over it looked. However, Woods wasn’t finished and he made it a hattrick when Sharp thumped a clearance up the park with Woods waiting to seal his treble in the box. The game fizzled out from here and both teams went through the motions somewhat. A decent and well needed confidence boosting performance from the Dee loons after a sore and heavy defeat on Saturday versus Hermes, with Islavale waiting in the league on Saturday. Newmachar on the other hand will need a much better performance if they are to get anything from a local derby v Stoneywood-Parkvale . Not much of a spectacle, but i didn’t know I was to be in attendance until around 5 minutes before kick off. A bonus game is a bonus game.
