Random Fact – I have lived in Oldmeldrum since 2012 and the town has had no club in that period until now, which given the size of the town compared to other Aberdeenshire AFA sized towns is very surprising. Welcome aboard to my new local team.

Unfortunately coming home from Denmark was met by the fact my best pal has gone missing. My cat Denis, and with out sounding like a fucking softie, he has been my guardian angel who has saved me from horrible times, places and thoughts over time where life has been shite. So this meant, what could be a walk to a game and having a good time was started by raking about the the town and fields prior to heading to the fitba but sadly to no avail.

But back on to walking to a game, Wee Man has been to 185 games with me and this was the first time we and walked anywhere which was a laugh as we got a kick about on our farm track. From here after the pre-mentioned raking about we grabbed a chipper and headed to the game. As we sat down with our haddock(stunning) and jumbo sausages(etc and the rest) the crowd was already impressive. This during the warm up. There was a barbecue on the go and a gazebo selling pies, coffees and maybe other refreshments which kept a wee bourach of folk in the corner but as kick off came closer the numbers packed out the Pleasure Park, to the extent that I counted 119 at the most. Incredible for a friendly at amateurs. That equalled 4% of Oldmeldrum’s population. But it was a derby as such and Fyvie would have had their own numbers there too.

The game was the old game of two halves. But to be honest Fyvie should have been well ahead early in the first half but squandered a few decent chances. This got the hosts tails up and the became the better team and they seemed spurred on by the luck or bad luck of Fyvie when it came to finishing. As they took the game to Fyvie thy eventually took the lead when Cheyne rose like a salmon to head home a Clark corner. One nil and it was two before the half was over when a long ball over the top found Cheyne who delicately lofted the ball up and over the onrushing McKinnon and into the net. A magic finish.

HT 2 v 0

Due to the hindrance of the sun we swapped ends for the second half and to be honest it backfired as the action was up the slope away from us and it was baltic in the shade. Anyway, the slope, when you are at Meldrum Sports is not as obvious , but when there is a lined pitch with goals its clear. It rivals local side Tarves in the ski slope stakes. It effected Fyvie who were shooting up the ramp but in n a positive manner as they dominated the second half. The away side missed a numerous big chances and you could see the Croatia doppelgangers were going to score and they did. First from the spot when referee Supper gave what looked a stonewall penalty. Ross Strath put it away despite many thinking it hit the post. (It hit the back stanchion and bounced out). Fyvie kept at the job in hand . They soon equalised through Cormack who tapped in a rebound after a huge throw in troubled the Meldrum defence. From here Meldrum looked a bit shell shocked and the tackles flew in leading to Mr Leslie in the middle having to brandish his yellow card. You could see a Fyvie goal coming and it did when Beedie sweetly struck a half clearance into the bottom corner completing the comeback. Great effort and a quality way to sew up a game. A decent shift from both sides and dirty at times . But who doesnt want to see that?

A good night but shite all the same. Heartbroken.
